Releasing footage for the iPod is part of a strategic long lead word-of-mouth strategy for Manderlay, which will premiere in theatres on February 3rd.
Ryan Werner, IFC’s VP of Marketing stated, "Like Apple, Lars von Trier is on the forefront of innovation and we have planned a series of unique initiatives leading up to the release of Manderlay on February 3rd. We are thrilled to launch of our campaign by making the first 10 minutes available on the iPod which is also a major leap forward in how consumers can access content."
“It is essential that we continue to explore fresh concepts to promote film,” added IFC President Jonathan Sehring. “The industry continues to adapt, from collapsing windows, to day-and-date initiatives, both of which we are aggressively establishing. Utilizing new technologies to cross promote and unveil product is a natural evolution, and we are thrilled to pioneer this with Apple.”
Manderlay features an all-star cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Danny Glover, Willem Dafoe, and Lauren Bacall and is the second film in a trilogy by renowned filmmaker Lars von Trier. Set in the American South in the late 1930s, Bryce Dallas Howard is Grace, a young woman who finds herself on a plantation that is operating as if slavery hadn’t been abolished 70 years earlier. Feeling a moral obligation to restore order and liberate the workers, Grace soon discovers how dangerous it can be to challenge the status quo and that justice and democracy are both complicated and imperfect.
