Avid Technology, Inc. has announced the grand prize winner and five runners-up from its video contest that challenged entrants to capture their passions and tell a story, via video, within 60 seconds. Taking viewers on a cross-country road trip, Brian Sharpe, a 27 year-old independent filmmaker from Chicago, IL, won the grand prize with a timelapse video titled “From Chicago to Vegas in 60 Seconds.” As the grand-prize winner, Brian received an all expenses paid trip to the NAB 2006 conference in Las Vegas and a free copy of the latest Avid Xpress® Pro software – the award-winning professional film, video and audio editing, effects creation and DVD authoring tool. Avid received more than 200 entries for the video contest.
“NAB was amazing. Being a part of the excitement and high energy on the floor and having the opportunity to mingle with professional Avid editors from Crash, Brokeback Mountain and Grey’s Anatomy was an once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Sharpe. “While at the conference, I learned how seasoned professionals dedicate time to their craft, and truly develop stories and characters during the editing process. I felt like I was watching magicians reveal their tricks. I have used Final Cut on past projects, but I’m really excited to have my own Avid Xpress Pro because of the depth of the features it offers to independent filmmakers.”
Avid also selected five runners-up and presented each with a free copy of Avid Xpress Pro software. These individuals include:
Josh Bourgeois, 25 of Houma, Louisiana with his “Avid for Inline Skating” video;
Estin Guerrero, 22, of Atlanta, Georgia with his “Avid for my Couch” video;
Min Lee, 23 of San Francisco, California with her “Pencil” video;
Brendan Schnurr, 20 of Ontario, Canada with his “Go Further” video; and
Casey Warren, 20, of Seattle, Washington with his “My Passion: Photography” video.
“There is an enormous amount of raw, creative talent out there, and our recent video contest gave many next-gen content creators a unique outlet for showing off their work,” said Steve Chazin, director of education and new markets at Avid. “We look forward to seeing these individuals grow in their careers and are committed to providing them with the best tools in the industry as their talents and storytelling skills evolve.”
