NEW YORK, NY – Sissy Spacek joins the cast of Paramount Picture’s comedy “Hot Rod.” Already attached to the project is comedy team and Saturday Night Live short producers Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. Samberg and Taccone (who are SNL cast members) will be starring alongside Spacek while Schaffer (a writer for SNL) will be making his directorial debut.
Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn are producing through their Paramount based company Michaels Goldwyn. Paramount’s Jill Messick is executive producing.
“Hot Rod” is written by Pam Brady. The film is about an accident prone daredevil who plans to jump snake river on a moped in an effort to emulate his hero Evel Knievel and win over his hard-to-please stepfather.
Spacek’s honors include an Academy Award® (“Coal Miner’s Daughter”), five additional Oscar® nominations (“Carrie”, “Missing”, “The River”, “Crimes of the Heart”, and “In the Bedroom”), three Golden Globe Awards and numerous critics awards. She first gained the attention of critics and audiences with her performance in Terrence Malick’s widely praised 1973 drama “Badlands,” in which she starred opposite Martin Sheen. Some of Spacek’s other film credits include “Raggedy Man” (directed by husband Jack Fisk), “A Home at the End of the World”, “The Straight Story”, “3 Women” and “The Long Walk Home”.
