New York, NY – The opening film of this year’s NewFest: The 19th Annual New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Film Festival will be the New York premiere of Duncan Roy’s reinterpretation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray” as announced today by Basil Tsiokos, Artistic Director of NewFest.
“The Picture of Dorian Gray” stars David Gallagher (“7th Heaven”) and is a modern twist on the classic tale by the maker of the critically-acclaimed “AKA”. The closing film of this year’s festival will be the New York City Premiere of Robert Cary’s drama “Save Me” which stars Chad Allen, Robert Gant, and Judith Light. It centers a confused, gay addict who turns to an ex-gay ministry to be cured, but finds himself drawn to another man.
“NewFest is excited to present these exceptional films to New York audiences for the first time. As we approach the second decade of the festival, I am thrilled to present one of our best line-ups to date,” said Tsiokos.
Centerpiece films of NewFest 2007 include the New York premiere of the Casper Andreas film “A Four Letter Word”, which is a NYC-set comedy about a man who unwittingly falls in love with a rentboy. Also making its New York premiere is the new film from Jamie Babbit “Itty Bitty Titty Committee” starring Melonie Diaz, Nicole Vicius, Carly Pope, Daniela Sea, Melanie Mayron, and Leslie Grossman. Diaz portrays Anna, an insecure, apolitical girl who encounters a radical political art group, falls in love with its leader (Vicius) and transforms from a girl into a woman.
NewFest will take place from May 31-June 10 and will be hosted by AMC Loews 34th Street Theater (312 W 34th St. at 8th Ave). The full program, schedule, and ticketing information will be online at www.newfest.org by May 14. Box Office opens to NewFest Members on May 18 and to the general public on May 23. The NewFest line-up will be comprised of nearly 250 films, including 34 New York Premieres, 24 United States Premiers and 8 World Premieres representing over 30 countries.
