The Media Studies and Film at The New School presents the Fifth Annual
Dorothy H. Hirshon Film Festival hosted by acclaimed filmmaker John
Cameron Mitchell. Mitchell is the artist-in-residence for this year¹s
festival, which focuses on ³The Cinema of Transgression.² A public
screening of Mitchell¹s 2001 film Hedwig and the Angry Inch will take
place on Friday, April 13. A Q&A session with the filmmaker will follow
the screening. The festival culminates with the 29th Annual New School
Invitational Film Show on May 5, which presents this year¹s outstanding
New School student films.

John Cameron Mitchell is an actor-director-writer who won two Obie
awards for his original stage play Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which was
later adapted for the big screen. Mitchell¹s most recent work, Shortbus,
is an examination of modern sexual relationships which premiered at the
2006 Cannes Film Festival.

About Media Studies at The New School
The New School offered its first film course in 1926. Today The New
School Media Studies and Film program offers a master¹s degree in media
studies as well as certificate programs in film production,
screenwriting, media management and documentary media studies.
Throughout its 36-year-history, the Media Studies and Film program has
