Nantucket – The 11th Annual Nantucket Film Festival wrapped Sunday night giving out seven awards. Aubrey Nealon’s A Simple Curve won the Nantucket Film Festival’s Writer/Director Award. The audience awards were given to Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg’s The Trials of Darryl Hunt for Best Feature and David Dean Bottrell’s Available Men for Best Short, it was announced today by Jill Burkhart, co-founder and executive director of the Nantucket Film Festival.

Showtime’s Tony Cox Award for Best Screenplay was given to Sophie Barthes’ Cold Souls. Barthes’ film, Happiness also won Showtime’s Tony Cox Award for Best Screenwriting of a short film. Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s Half Nelson won Showtime’s Tony Cox Award for Best Screenwriting of a feature film.

The Showtime Tony Cox Screenplay Competition is open to any and all screenwriters. The jury was comprised of Tom McCarthy (writer/director, The Station Agent), Academy Award winner, Diana Ossana, (writer/producer, Brokeback Mountain) and Campbell Scott (director, Off the Map).

Best Screenwriting of a short film – Happiness, by Sophie Barthes
Best Screenwriting for a feature film – Half Nelson by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden

The Nantucket Film Festival Writer/Director Award Jury included Anthony Bregman (producer, Friends with Money, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Marc Levin (director, SLAM) and Henry-Alex Rubin (director, Murderball).

The Teen View on Nantucket Film Festival Award jury consists of six 8th graders who screen and discuss this year’s 21 short films and determine the winner based on which film most inspires discussion.

The NBC Universal Screenwriters Tribute was awarded to Academy Award-winning screenwriters, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, the writing team of Sideways and About Schmidt, in a special ceremony held Saturday, June 17.
